I am off to China!
Since there is no direct flight from Tokyo to Urumqi, I am going via Chengdu (Sichuan province). I've tried to get a ticket that goes via Xi'an so it'd look like I am following the Silk Road (plus I kind of wanted to see Terracotta Warriors) but it didn't quite work out, Oh well.
My rough plan is Chengdu - Urumqi - Kashgar - Karakul Lake - Turpan and back to Urumqi. I tried not to squeeze in too much but we'll see.
Probably taking trains between towns and some long distance buses. Donkey too, perhaps?
I will (probably) be spending most of my time in Kashgar, and doing a little trip to Karakul lake via Karakoram highway (KKH - aka China-Pakistan Friendship Highway). I really want to be in Kashgar for the Sunday market.
I tried to look for some guide/driver for Turpan online but unable to find reasonable one so I am just going to go there and negotiate with the taxi drivers there. Hopefully it'll work out.
So my itinerary in XinJiang looks like this, yippee!
