Tapas hopping in Madrid

Our first day out in Madrid was awesome!

After arriving by train from Granada, our friend, MariaD came to pick us up from the Atocha train station. She has kindly offered us to stay with her while we were in Madrid which we gladly accepted.

In the evening, our Madrileño friend, Jaime and Anuska took us Tapas-hopping in Madrid. This was super fun and amazingly yummy.

We are so grateful because without them it would have been pretty difficult to decide what to eat and where!

So after a quick walking tour of the city guided by Jaime, we headed for some drinks at Tapas bar called Posada de Leon de Oro in Calle de la cava baja.

We had a glass of cava, sangria, olive and a potato dish. It was mix of potatoes, fried eggs, cream cheese? all mixed together with a sauce........(can't remember the name!)

The place was packed with locals. Great food, great drinks & great company - great Friday!

Our friend from Sydney, Patrick who happened to be visiting Madrid also joined us. So all five of us headed for the next place. Here, you order one tapas dish (they are all nicely displayed at the counter) and you get one drink complimentary. I ordered a glass of vino blanco and some sort of meat dish with sweet onion on bread. It was so delicious!!

Our third stop, we sat outside - had yet another vino blanco! (mmm... getting a little tipsy) We ordered tortilla de patatas (it was AMAZING!! Before tasting this, I thought meh, it's just going to be an omelette and potatoes but it was very VERY yummy!!! I must learn how to make this!!!) and fried fish (Cazón) - which was also super delicious.

We then walked to Chueca (stopping at lolly shop on our way to get some sweets). We had very yummy organic ice creams to finish off a wonderful first dinner in Madrid. Thanks Jaime and Anuska!!
Happy Friday! (Naomi, Patrick, Ice cream guy & Anuska)
